Taking the Shawl

It’s time to return home…

The timing of the Shawl card couldn’t be better.  I know, that for me, this winter has created a feeling of “disconnect.” Unwilling, and sometimes unable, to go outside due to the freezing temperatures and piles of snow, has placed me in a temporary state of “I.”  I yearned for my connection to the warmth and light of the sun and the ability to walk barefoot in the soft, green grass again. For the last two months, I felt myself slowly withering away and going into a state of hibernation. Feelings of sadness permeated my soul and I could feel myself becoming paralyzed and unmotivated.  I hardly left the house and had a decreased desire to socialize.

Nature_heart_by_beyond__my__dreamsThe Sacred Path card invites us to “take the shawl” and return home to where the heart is…It is time to move from the head, our egos, to the place of the heart. It’s time to come out of hibernation and lovingly re-connect with our fellow allies in nature and other human beings.  By doing so, we come into alignment with our truth so that we can once again, recognize the beauty in all life forms and live in harmony.

For Native Americans, it was not about their dwellings but rather their connection to Earth Mother and to each other.   It was a symbol to return to the Traditional teachings of their  Elders.   To “take the shawl” means to be responsible by being loving to others, even those who live from ego.  The people who do this know that “those people” who live from ego are here to remind us why we need to stay on the Sacred Path.
